Dissemination Workshop for We love eating and My healthy family EU-pilot projects

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Health is a topic of importance for all European citizens and governments, and two innovative EU pilot projects aim to bring healthier lifestyles into homes and communities.

The projects are My healthy family and We love eating, and they were implemented in various EU countries throughout 2014 – 2015. Each project was built upon an innovative methodology centred on community participation to create sustainable change.

My healthy family promoted the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in the EU, and especially in Hungary and Poland, by giving them away for free as well as by promotional and educational activities. The project went beyond getting citizens to eat fruits and vegetables – its aim was to show that these foods are truly enjoyable, easy to prepare and not expensive. Along with the free produce, My healthy family included recipes by well-known chefs and nutritional information. Over 20,000 people took part in the project.

We love eating was launched in seven EU cities with the aim to promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, focusing on children, pregnant women and the elderly. These groups are at important life stages where good health is especially crucial. We love eating involved local stakeholders - including local authorities, NGOs and charities, schools, homes for older people and community and health centres – to participate in making healthy choices more available to all citizens.

Now, the findings and results of these projects are ready to be shared and evaluated for replication across the EU and to help shape future policy towards good health and healthy eating. A one-day event has been organised for this purpose, with a unique and interactive format. This exclusive dissemination workshop will take place in Brussels on 16 December 2015 at the Residence Palace Building from 09:30 to 16:00.

Stakeholders of the two pilot projects will be welcomed by Philippe Roux Head of Unit “Health Determinants” at the European Commission’s DG Health and Food Safety with an opening talk on public health policy in relation to the two pilot projects. Following the opening discussion, the context, objectives and results of each project will be presented and discussed among the stakeholders. There will also be a roundtable to discuss experiences and insights related to the projects. As a bonus, a new EU pilot project will be presented, which will promote good health to pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The dissemination workshop will be held in English.
