Story of the month: "We Love Eating" Deventer school moves to healthy snacking
As part of the "We Love Eating" project, the Mikado School in Deventer has been encouraging students and their parents to avoid an excess of sugars and fat in their diets.
Practicing what they preach, the school's midday snack break now consists of a healthy treat of fruit and bread. Mikado also developed fun workshops to teach students the benefits of fruit and vegetables. Parents are now more aware of the benefits of a balanced diet even at an early age.
In related news, 330 Dutch schools have received a certificate issued by the Gezonde School for their efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle among children. The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is one of the funding partners of the programme. Of the seventeen schools in Deventer, five also participated actively in the "We Love Eating" project.
