Objectives

Dissemination workshop to present findings of the EU pilot projects We Love Eating and My healthy family.

The activity

Health is a topic of importance for all European citizens and governments. From 2013 – 2015, two innovative EU pilot projects tested how to best bring healthier lifestyles into homes and communities.

My healthy family promoted the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables in Hungary and Poland, by combining educational events and activities with handing out free produce.

The We love eating project was implemented in seven EU cities to promote healthy eating and regular physical activity, focusing on children, pregnant women and older people. These groups are at important life stages where good health is especially crucial. We love eating involved local stakeholders – such as authorities, NGOs and charities, schools, homes for older people and community and health centres – to make healthy lifestyle choices more available to all citizens.

The findings and results of these projects are ready to be shared across Europe, as well as influence future policy towards healthy lifestyles.

A one-day event was organised for this purpose on 16 December 2015 at the Residence Palace Building in Brussels. Stakeholders of the two pilot projects were welcomed by Philippe Roux, Head of Unit “Health Determinants” at the European Commission’s DG Health and Food Safety with an opening talk on public health policy in relation to the two pilot projects. Following the opening discussion, the context, objectives and results of each project were presented and discussed among the stakeholders.

There was also a roundtable to discuss experiences and insights from the projects moderated by Mr Bjarne Bruun Jensen, Chair of the We love eating Scientific Board. As a bonus, the “Together” project, a new EU pilot which promotes good health to pregnant and breastfeeding women, was presented.

The final agenda of the workshop, as well as all of the presentations of the session dedicated to We love eating and the press release of the event, can be downloaded from the links below.
